A new group of Monroe County CASAs were sworn in by Judge Stephen Galvin July 18. CASAs are volunteer court-appointed special advocates for abused and neglected children. Oct. 10, 2013 Monroe County CASA warmly thanks the Bloomington Metropolitan Professional Firefighters, Local 586, for building the 2013 CASA Playhouse, transporting it during the July 4 parade, and on Labor Day weekend, and helping promote it. On the weekend of Aug. 31-Sept. 1, CASA sold almost $2,000 of raffle tickets at its display in front of the firehouse on Fourth and Grant streets, near the entrance to the Fourth Street Festival. 12 CASA children are having a very special holiday season this year thanks to the generosity of Smithville Communications, Inc. employees. Many thanks to the Smithville Spirit Team for coordinating this amazing effort! They even wrapped the presents! Two of our CASAs – Paul and Verna – were able to load up their cars and deliver these gifts to their very surprised and thankful families.
