Become a Monroe County Volunteer
One of the best ways to support the local community is through volunteering. The City of Bloomington Volunteer Network has compiled a list of volunteer opportunities in our community. Sign up with CASA or join groups like Bloomington Pride, Boys and Girls Club, or Big Brothers Big Sisters. You can also apply to be a part of the Commission on Status of Children and Youth or the Commission on the Status of Black Males. These commissions also have an impact on the children in our community. There are hundreds of valuable and necessary local volunteer opportunities in Monroe County, but of course, we hope that you will consider becoming a CASA volunteer.
Why CASA
Every year, hundreds of Monroe County children are found to be Children in Need of Services due to abuse and neglect. Fortunately, CASA is there to help make sure that these children are not overlooked. CASA’s mission is to change those children’s stories. CASA volunteers serve as the child’s advocate, making sure they don’t get lost in the legal system. The dedicated volunteers come from all backgrounds and experience levels.
Volunteering is one of the best ways to expand your horizons and engage with others. Become a community volunteer and make a difference in the community.

Change a Child’s Story
When you become a volunteer with CASA, you are signing up to positively change the direction of a child’s story. Oftentimes, CASA volunteers are one of the main constants in the child’s legal journey. As advocates, they get to know that child and understand what is in the child’s best interest. CASA volunteers serve as resources for the child to feel heard and supported. Not only do Monroe County CASA volunteers improve the wellness of the child, but they also experience personal growth while making an impact on the community.
Just one year after becoming a CASA volunteer, Kenady has altered the direction of a neglected child’s life. She has been with the child for the entirety of the case and advocates “on behalf of their best interest to everyone included on the case”. When someone becomes a CASA, they have been entrusted with a very important job of making sure the child’s needs are met.
Other Ways to Get Involved
There is always a need for CASA volunteers. For those who are unable to make a 2-year commitment to CASA but still wish to support the CASA program, here is a list of a few ways to get involved.
- Attend one of CASA’s special events!
- Apply for Monroe County CASA’s Board of Directors or join the fundraising, community engagement, or gala committee.
- Follow CASA on social media and help share information regarding CASA and the need for volunteers.
- Encourage friends and family who may make excellent CASA volunteers to apply.
